Western NY Hard Cider Tour - Online Registration is Closed

Approximately 9 AM - 3 PM (educational orchard tours plus lunch)
3:30 PM- ? Optional tasting of local cider varieties at Mullers Cider House, Rochester (cash bar)

Come visit the orchards of the first NY growers of European and American Hard Cider varieties! There will be three educational stops in Wayne County followed by the optional tasting in Rochester. Follow Cornell Fruit Event Signs

9-9:30am: Check-in/Registration at Stop 1- Wafler Nursery, 6827 Lake Bluff Rd, Wolcott, NY 14590

9:30-10:30: Host Bill Pitts will have recently budded hard cider trees to view, and will discuss the status of the demand for cider varieties.

10:30-11:00: Travel to Stop 2, Lagoner Farms/Embark Craft Ciderworks, 6895 Lake Ave, Williamson, NY 14589.

11:10-12:10: Host Jake Lagoner will show us several ages and densities of hard cider plantings. The orchards range from desert varieties to high tannin European and American cider varieties, to planting systems from semi-dwarf to tall spindle high density.

12:15-1:30: Host Mitzi Lagoner will be providing the group with a delicious lunch at their farm market/cafe. In addition, members of the Hard Cider PWT will share research and outreach updates.

1:30-1:45: Travel to Stop 3, DeFisher Fruit Farms/Rootstock Ciderworks, 5974 Pease Rd., Williamson, NY 14589

1:50-2:50: Host David DeFisher will show us 2 lower density plantings of the same hard cider varieties on two different rootstocks, M106 and B118. David will share his vision of mechanical harvesting on lower density orchard systems.

3:00pm: The educational portion of the tour will conclude. Attendees are invited to taste local ciders at Mullers Cider House in Rochester (cash bar). Mullers Cider House is located at 1344 University Ave, # 180, Rochester, NY 14607. (~ 30 minute drive from DeFisher Fruit Farm).


The tour & lunch are subsidized by a grant from Cornell University, through the Hard Cider Program Work Team. The cost of the tour is only $5. Registration should be received by Aug 2nd. There will be no buses. Ample parking available at the different stops. Carpooling is encouraged.
