A grower training course developed by the Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) that meets the regulatory requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) for farms subject to the Produce Safety Rule. Participants will receive a certificate of course completion by the Association of Food and Drug Officials. All farms are welcome to attend to learn about recommended food safety practices for growing, handling, and storing fresh produce.
The course consists of the following modules:
Day 1:
- Introduction to Produce Safety
- Worker Health, Hygiene, and Training
- Soil Amendments
- Wildlife, Domesticated Animals, and Land Use
Day 2:
- Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water)
- Agricultural Water (Part II: Post-Harvest Water)
- Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
- How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan
- What to Expect After the Training: On-Farm Readiness Reviews and Inspections in NYS
Note that this is a remote delivery (Zoom) course. Participants must have access to a device (computer or tablet) connected to broadband internet with functioning microphone and video camera capabilities. High-speed internet (>25 Mbps download, >3 Mbps upload) is recommended. Participant engagement will be monitored throughout the course via audio, visual, and written methods. In order to receive a certificate of course completion, participants must be engaged and present for the entirety of all modules.

Join us for a live, virtual training on scouting of major insect pests of apple orchards. Anna Wallis (NYSIPM Program), Mike Basedow (CCE ENYCHP), and Janet van Zoeren (CCE LOFT), will broadcast from orchards in their region to discuss best practices for monitoring. We will review monitoring/scouting procedures for major economically significant pests. We will also share resources available for helping with identification of pests and forecasting pest activity.
