Alternative Grapevine Propagation Study - Field Meeting 1
April 30, 2016Where: Hid-In-Pines Vineyard at 456 Soper Street, Morrisonville, NY
Richard Lamoy owner of Hid-In-Pines Vineyard, has been awarded a Northeast SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education) grant to study and evaluate a more efficient and economical way to propagate and transplant grape vines for vineyard expansion. This project will evaluate a method of propagating vines from smaller cuttings into cell plug trays and planted with a transplanter.
This will be the first of two planned field meetings related to the project. This meeting will cover the basic methodologies of this study. It will encompass selecting proper cane collection and cutting preparation. The importance of callusing the cuttings with heat will be discussed and the planting of the prepared cuttings in plug trays will be covered. Currently started and growing vines will be shown. A second meeting will be held in early June to demonstrate the planting procedure.
This meeting is free. Pre-registration is required by 4/25.
