GAPs for Small Farms
March 28 - March 29, 2012
As food safety regulations continue to evolve, the need for farmers to be proactive about farm food safety issues is growing. NOFA-NY and Cornell Cooperative Extension are pleased to announce a great opportunity for farmers to learn more about the Good Agricul-tural Practices (GAPs) and develop a personalized farm food safe-ty plan. Join Betsy Bihn (National GAPs Program, CCE), Robert Hadad (Cornell Vegetable Program), and Craig Kahlke (Lake Ontario Fruit Team) where they will cover a full schedule:Day 1: An in-depth look at GAPs. How and where microbial contamination can occur, how to use the GAPs standards to write a farm produce safety plan, and what is involved in a GAPs audit. Several NYSDAM representatives will be on hand to describe the GAPs audit procedure and answer questions.Day 2: The Farm Produce Safety Plan. The extension educa-tors will help you write your own farm produce safety plan. NYSDAM representatives will be available to answer questions as well. You will need to bring a laptop with Microsoft Word. If you do not have a laptop, please let us know when you register! We have a limited number available for you to borrow.
