Growing Greens and Storing Crops for the Winter Market - Wednesday Walk & Talk

Winter can be a season of revenue. Stew Ritchie, of Native Offerings Farm, will give a tour of his winter greens production and crop storage areas. Discussion will focus on technique sharing for winter greens production, appropriate storage conditions to reduce losses and increase quality, and strategies for introducing greens or an expanded selection of storage crops in your winter offerings.

Squash School

In recent years, several food borne illness outbreaks in produce have made national news. Both the produce industry and the federal government have stepped up demands for fruit and vegetable farms to meet food safety practice standards. These standards are known as GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices).
A new program, Harmonized GAPs, has been developed to combine several food safety certifications into one program. New York's retail produce buyers, such as Wegmans, are asking growers to adopt Harmonized GAPs certification in many cases.
In response, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Cornell Vegetable Program, the Cornell Lake Ontario Fruit Team, the Produce Safety Alliance, and the Cornell National GAPs Program, with assistance from NY Ag & Markets, will be presenting a training for farm food safety or GAPs, including Harmonized GAPs. The training is open to all produce farms and related industry people. This workshop is partially funded through a grant from the Genesee Valley Regional Market Authority.

This session will introduce the performance triad—clear expectations, training, and feedback—to support employee success. We will discuss practical communication strategies, how to give constructive feedback, and how supervisors can help employees improve their performance over time.
April 28, 2026 : Session 3: Managing Conflict
Supervisors are responsible for maintaining a professional and respectful workplace. This session covers some of the legal and ethical responsibilities of supervisors and the responsibilities managers have in addressing workplace concerns.
Participants will also explore common sources of workplace conflict, learn to recognize potential biases that can influence management decisions, and discuss practical approaches for addressing difficult situations and resolving conflicts at work.
