This Tuesday, August 2nd from 10AM to Noon, we will be holding a Fire Blight Workshop in Plattsburgh, NY. The workshop will be held at the Valcour Brewing Company; this is a new establishment in downtown Plattsburgh, near the oval.
In light of the circumstances this season, Srdjan Acimovic, pathologist at the Hudson Valley Research Lab, and Dave Rosenberger, retired pathologist Hudson Valley Research Lab, will be presenting information on fire blight management, conditions that led to this season's situation, and how to predict fire blight infections in the future.

High Tunnel Pest and Disease Management

How can you manage your tunnel to limit losses due to pests and disease? This field day will start with identification of common high tunnel pests and diseases and effective organic control strategies, including spraying. Andy Fellenz, with support from NE-SARE, has developed and will demonstrate a boom-style high tunnel sprayer, as well as discuss the proper use of backpack and other relatively low pressure, low flow single-tip sprayers. Variety selection, rotation, cultural practices and spraying all have a place in the overall farm strategy.

There will be an update on the new, very serious seed-borne bacterial disease, Blackleg Dickeya, including how to identify it, and how to reduce the risk of getting it next year, as well as updates on late blight, potato insect management and the development of a quick test for determining nematode levels in soils before planting.
