February 8 - March 13, 2024
Are you a grape grower looking to learn how to properly prune your vines? If so, you may be interested in joining ENYCHP's viticulture specialist, Jeremy Schuster, for a series of four-hour workshops focused on grape vine pruning. Each workshop is limited to 12 people, and pre-registration is required. The workshop fee is $40 or $120 with a Felco pruner that you keep. The deadline for ordering a Felco pruner is 2 WEEKS before the workshop date. The registration will remain open until the Monday before the workshop date, but do not select the Felco pruner option if you are less than 2 weeks away from the workshop date, and please bring your own instead. During the workshops, you will learn a variety of pruning techniques and gain valuable knowledge about how to maintain vine balance in commercial vineyards throughout the Hudson Valley. How Profitable will My New Orchard Investment Be? Evaluating Capital Investment Decisions in a Farm Business
February 29 - March 7, 2024
The purpose of this on-line course is to help you learn to make informed investment decisions for your farm. The focus is on investment decisions that have long-term implications for your business. The course uses an apple farm, Smith Orchard, as an example, but the skills taught in this class are appropriate for any farm business. In this course you will learn to:
- Identify possible investment opportunities for your farm.
- Use your financial statements, farm financial information, and other data to evaluate your farm's performance and to help prioritize investment options.
- Develop an enterprise budget and use your enterprise budgets and partial budget analysis to evaluate the risk and profitability of potential investments.
- Use cost-benefit analysis tools that consider the time value of money to help you choose among investment options.
The course is held over 2 weeks and the primary mode of instruction will be online using Moodle. You will have access to instructional videos, written instructions, sample financial information and practice scenarios and on-line forums for discussion. This work can be done at a time and location that is convenient to you. Each week will end with a 1.5 hour Zoom session on Thursday from 3:00-4:30, where we will go over key concepts and answer any questions you may have. The Zoom sessions will be recorded if you are unable to attend.

2024 Virtual Orchard Meetup Series 'Water Wisdom: Navigating Tree Fruit Production Through Drought and Deluge'
June 6 - June 27, 2024
Since 2021, the North American Summer Virtual Meetup Program has brought together growers, researchers, Extension, and government to have a conversation about important tree fruit topics. Connecting industry leaders across North America, over 20 experts are involved in these 90-minute online forums, interacting with more than 1,000 participants. Our fourth series will focus on "Water Wisdom: Navigating Tree Fruit Production Through Drought and Deluge". Over the past decade, growers have experienced unpredictable rainfall, water availability challenges, droughts and deluges. We want to explore methods for adapting to these challenges and discuss alternatives for efficient irrigation practices, including advances in irrigation technologies that help growers produce high quality fruit. In addition to the primary speakers, viewers are invited to share solutions, ask questions, and interact with the specialists and grower panelists. Preregistration is not required to attend. To join, simply go to the Meet-Up Zoom Site:
https://treefruit.wsu.edu/event/2023-virtual-orchard-meetup-summer-series-managing-the-uncontrollable/2024-06-06/. If you can't access, copy and paste the URL in your browser:

Whether you are a fruit grower with ample experience, one that has modest experience, or one that is just getting started, Virtual Orchard Meetups will be the right setting for you to ask questions and find alternative
